2026 New Mexico Chile Supply Update

Challenging Growing Conditions
The New Mexico Chile Association wants to keep processors, suppliers, and industry partners informed about the current chile supply situation and the challenges affecting this year’s harvest. Prolonged adverse growing conditions, including unusually warm nighttime temperatures, affected the chile crop throughout the summer harvest season. While many fields produced an initial harvest, the crop did not progress normally afterward. Plants entered first pick under stress, and many fields were unable to recover sufficiently to produce the anticipated second harvest.
Current Supply Outlook
Current industry estimates indicate supply shortfalls ranging from approximately 20% to 50%, depending on the product, supplier, and finalized customer requirements. Reduced availability is affecting chile products across the board. Suppliers are actively evaluating available crops and remaining inventories in the field to better understand what product will be available through the remainder of the season.
A Message to Industry Partners
We encourage customers to communicate directly with their suppliers and reaffirm both near-term and forward forecasts. Accurate forecasts will help suppliers evaluate available inventory, identify potential shortages earlier, and determine whether customer prioritization or formal allocation may be necessary. Open communication and collaboration throughout the supply chain will be important as the industry navigates the remainder of the season.
Continuing to Monitor the Market
The New Mexico Chile Association will continue monitoring the situation and sharing relevant updates as additional information becomes available. We appreciate the continued support of New Mexico’s chile growers, processors, suppliers, retailers, restaurants, and consumers. New Mexico chile is a treasured part of our state’s agricultural heritage, and we remain committed to supporting the industry and keeping our partners informed.
Thank you for your continued support of New Mexico chile!
